Abstract
This paper studies the influence of phenomena of instability on the seismic behaviour of steel building, such as buckling and the lateral torsional buckling. The aim of the work is to analyze the seismic behaviour of a seven-storey steel structure located in a high seismicity zone in the presence of phenomena of instability, and to find the appropriate solution to avoid these phenomena and make the structure more stable. The results show that the best solution for preventing the lateral torsional buckling is to create lateral bracing at the level of the unstable beam, and for buckling it is necessary to increase the cross-sections of the steel profiles. In terms of connections, it can be seen that the choice of connection is strongly influenced by these phenomena, and it is also more economical to take instability phenomena into account when designing steel building.
