Abstract
In the Framework of preserving old hydraulic masonry structures in Egypt, several evaluation criteria have been followed. In the current research, El-Bagoria regulator was selected as case study to assess its structural performance after continuous serviceability for more than 130 years. Intensive work program to evaluate the current situation of the construction materials at different periods was applied. Mechanical and physical testing were performed periodically every seven years starting from 2006 till 2020. Non-conventional core testing technique was adopted. 100 mm borehole penetration the barrage from the upper most exposed surface till 10 m below foundation level was executed. This would facilitate examining both brick works as well as soil features underneath the regulator. The results show unsignificant changes in the masonry compositions of the regulator throughout the test program. In addition, numerical analysis was also conducted to determine the most stressed portions as well as stress distribution among the regulator. Contrast between numerical and experimental data showed the importance need for undergoing fully strengthening program. Thus, rehabilitation program to extend its lifetime span, was introduced. Features of this program was shown at the end of the article.
